Enfield Town Friendly - It's On

Post by Mr Heinstein »

The Enfield Town friendly due to be played this Tuesday, 23 July, won't be played at the SkyEx, from the official site:
Due to ongoing safety work at the SKYex, Tuesday’s game will not take place at our home ground.

We are actively looking for an alternate location to give both teams valuable pre-season match action, and will confirm as soon as possible.

We will keep everyone up to date as soon as we have further information.
I suppose the silver lining from the announcement is that there is work in progress to resolve the safety issue. Disappointing that those at the club who know what the safety issue is choose to keep quiet.

Hoping for the best, but last time the club couldn't get a safety certificate for the ground we were at Beaconsfield for the season.

I wonder what QPR make of it all.

Appears to be cancelled. Enfield Town are on the lookout for alternative opponents. From their X / Twitter:
FRIENDLY REQUIRED

Our First Team are seeking an AWAY friendly for this Tuesday, 23rd July 2024. Opposition ideally Step 3-5.

I guess the only silver lining here is the issues are being rectified. Much better now rather than during the season which could result in fines, points deductions or worse. Better to miss a few friendlies, though not ideal preparation for the upcoming season.
Worse pre season than last year, let’s hope not the same outcome at the end.
Hardest thing is no announcement from the club as to the reason why or the severity of the H&S issues.

Great, another chance to judge the trialists and hopefully sign some to become menbers of the squad.

It could be good practice for an upcoming cup run with the "Desso Pitch" described as:
A world class playing surface representing a precise replica of the Wembley pitch
Also the issues with the the SkyEx, while I'm' sure a complete pain to those running the club, don't sound like anything which are fundamental or long-term issues. Possibly issues with the original build which are only just coming to light. Sorry for Dev if he has to dip his hand in is pocket to sort things out though.
