Gosport Borough (A)

Post by Red army »

2 wins in a week!!! Massive 3 points on the road today. Massive credit to players and staff for this performance. To a man dug deep to bring the points home. The easiest chances of the season for us somehow missed to keep the nerves jangling till the final whistle.

1st half was quite subdued but limited a Gosport side to very few chances. Header wide and couple of timely interceptions by Will Salmon and Marvel. Couple of half chances for the away side, Ayo down the left weaving into the area cross come shot takes a deflection and hits the outside of the bear post. Mo Bettamer challenged for very aerial duel, header wide from a Cole Brown cross, another cross just too high for him to get decent connection. Ayo just before half time hassles Gosport centre half, knicks the ball away from him and gets hauled to the floor some distance from goal but worthy of a yellow. Good half and performance but still giving up lots of space to the wide players of Gosport. Mo Bettamer free kick just over from distance. Ht 0-0

Good start to the half, corner half cleared to the Hayes left, Cole Brown left footed cross finds Samni Odelusi in the middle of the goal unmarked, his stopping header guided inside the far post. End to end now, shove in the back for Cole Brown on the byline, ref gives nothing cross into the area and point blank save from Dillion Addai. 3 minutes later Mo Bettamer 20yds from goal on the left, wins a free kick with his quick feet. He steps up hits a low skidding free kick that the keeper could only parry, into the path of Luke Gambin somehow the keeper saves his attempt from 2yards and out for a corner. Resulting corner swing deep to the back post, Paul Field rising highest his header blocked, falls invitingly to Ayo Faniyan who stabs home high into the goal. Gosport shot flys past the post. Another cross swung into the Hayes box this time they unable to clear the lines ball bundled home of a post. Addai called into action this time a neat save on the edge of the 6yard box, Hayes being pinned into their own half, ball constantly coming back and tested time and time again by crosses and corners. 10mins left a high ball bounces 25yds from goal both Gosport defenders leave it to each other, on the second bounce a Cruyff turn between the defenders and through on goal, keeper to beat calm as you like skips round the keeper and somehow manages to hit the outside of the post with the goal at his mercy. The last 10 was a nervous affair Gosport pushing the Hayes rear guard deeper and deeper, few scrambles but dealt with by Dillion commanding presence between the sticks. Samni effort late in the day with lofted shot over the advanced keeper but sails over the bar. 7mins stoppage time does nothing for the nerves, last chance for Gosport, ball falls just outside the box but a rushed effort high over the bar to the delight of the away fans.

Mom honestly give it to any of the players today, a proper team performance all digging in for one another. Nice to see some real commitment and determination today. Definitely looking a little more threatening going forward, seems to be more of an idea when going forward.

Enjoy the cup final Wednesday and then another massive game at home to Salisbury next Saturday.

Not there but a massive win considering how good Gosport were at our place. Another massive game at the weekend three points would be great for our relegation fight.

An excellent performance and a team prepared to dig in and defend properly whilst still posing a threat at the other end.

We look much better with a back three.

We look much better with a very good goalkeeper.

We look much better with Sammi and Amos in the middle of the park.

Let's focus on the three league games and maybe leave a couple of key players on the bench for the final. Perhaps start Wabo, Owens, Wiltshire and Silva and let a few of the regulars have a rest.

Hopefully the midweek games will not do us too much damage with Hanwell and Sholing playing once whilst Tiverton and Plymouth play twice before we entertain Salisbury. Beaconsfield and Swindon are also in amongst it again with just two games to go. My hunch is that we might need 49 points to ensure safety although there is mention on the Harrow match report that rumours abound only three may go down.
