Andy Leese

Post by PSG55 »

Club released an official statement to say he's left the club.

To be honest, I'm not overly surprised by this. Nothing against Andy, but I just got the impression that maybe he wasn't totally sold on the setup (just me looking from afar). I do think it's good to go back to having just one manager again. I've never been a fan of joint managers. I have no doubt Simon will give it a good shot next season and he seems very well liked by the players from various posts etc that I've seen.

Do we reckon this is a positive?

Good luck and thanks to Andy just in case he's passing through here.

I don't really know enough to judge whether this is a positive or a negative. Just from watching the youTube post-match comments, Andy and Simon seemed to compliment each other. One more mellow, one more brusque, one quite tall, one less so.

Still, I'm confident Simon can carry us forward as the solo manager backed by his coaching staff.

I know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes at the club and nor do most of us. However it seems to me that Andy has been treated a little harshly considering our showing in the second half of the season. What was the original expectation back in August for a recently relegated club such as ours who had retained only a handful of players from the previous season (indeed Cole Brown and Jack Williams did not hang around that long and Will Salmon left before the season was out).

We were effectively only a goal away from making the play off's and if this failure alone is the reason for his dismissal then the referee at South Park has a lot to answer for in not awarding a late penalty kick which would have seen us finish 4th and had the dubious pleasure of going to Hanworth on a Wednesday night.

It was always going to be a difficult task considering the budgets available at Farnham and Kingstonian, the latter only scraping into 5th place then losing on penalties at Uxbridge. We did seem to have been assembling a decent squad with the additions of Jack McKnight and Tyler Hayles looking particularly shrewd. I am concerned that we will lose some good players now Andy has gone and perhaps even more if Simon is not the next manager. Surely starting again in pre-season with another load of new players makes it more difficult to get off to the flying start that we would hope to in a league next season that might possibly not have any teams dropping down from a higher division.

Let's see what happens.

I didn't know if it was Andy's choice to move on or whether it was the club's decision to let him go. Maybe the latter is more likely but I'm not sure.

Simon Lane is confirmed as manager for next season with Delroy as his assistant on the official site now, along with the message that we're looking retain the bulk of last year's squad with some strengthening.

Roll on the 2025/26 season and the pre-season friendly announcements!

Likewise this end. I just assumed (perhaps naively) that Andy made the decision as I didn't really see a need to "dispense" with his services after the past season. Whether that's the case, I don't know.

That said, Simon now confirmed with Delroy as Assistant Manager and I like this setup. Delroy knows the club inside out. Simon provides continuity from last season and is spoken of highly by fans of other clubs he's been at. I still remember him as a young coach cutting his teeth over here in Malta at the turn of millenium or thereabouts.

If we can retain the bulk of our squad, that is a tremendous start. We weren't far off in the second half of the season. If we can add some extra quality too, that's a real bonus. Continuity is right as long as it's done well. We all remember thinking keeping a lot of our old squad from the Paul Hughes days was good when Richie Hanlon took over. It turned out to be a disaster. So as long as it's kept fresh in parts this time, I think we'll have a great season.

Kingstonian have lost their manager, Scott Harris, who resigned yesterday. A big exodus of "his" players expected too and a lot of turmoil there. So hopefully we'll be able to cross them off the list of potential title contenders next season.
