Hanwell Town (MSC) (A) - 11 Feb 2025 MATCH OFF

Post by Mr Heinstein »

Tickets just £5, or £3 for under 18s, via the Hanwell website here: https://app.fanbaseclub.com/Fan/Tickets ... board=True

Their online prices are usually cheaper than their "on the gate" prices, but I don't know what the "on the gate" price is for this match.

Why bother having an initial inspection @ 4pm and pass it, then with no change in weather conditions call it off with 45 minutes to ko. When players, staff, fans have made the effort and incurred the cost of travel to get to the game. Drive an hour to get there pulled up outside, oh game off reg just decided, it’s becoming a joke.
Not just directed at Hanwell but clubs seem to think the fans all live next door to the ground. Pitch looked in decent condition bar a small area near the corner flag.
If there any doubt just call it off at 4pm all concerned are disappointed but better than wasting peoples time and money.
Is it a law of the game that the matchday referee is the only one that can call the game off??
Believe it was 2 separate refs concerned last night the initial inspection then the match referee.
Anyway nothing likely to change in the near future, so guess just grin and bear it every time it happens.

May even get a game this month if we are really lucky!!!!!

Yes, it's very annoying (or worse) and it's happened twice in four days now.

I think the home side can call in a suitably qualified referee at some point before the match ref arrives and that ref can call the match off if they see no prospect of the pitch being playable. Or last last night, they can decide to not call it off if they think there's the possibility of it going ahead, leave it up to the match ref and then they make the final call.

So, the 4pm ref thought there was a chance the pitch would be playable, the match ref decided it wasn't. It's not a science, different refs will take different views on the same pitch. Was it Rayners Lane at home when there was plenty of surface water and the game was on? Last season a small puddle by the entrance to the pitch was enough to put that ref off.

I don't think Hanwell could have done much more yesterday. They got a ref in early and kept people updated. But it still went pear shaped. Last Saturday, ummm, well, room for improvement from the powers that be at H&Y I think. No early ref. Lack of updates.

Next up Kingstonian. Looks dry and not too cold between now and then, so looks promising, but I've said that before...

Pulled up to West Ealing, five mins or so from the ground & parked up to a fantastic message saying game off.

Wasted evening - but was a risk making the journey knowing this could happen with the history of the pitch @ Hanwell Town, this seems to currently be the norm with a lot of referees too. Saturdays game should’ve been called off a lot earlier having seen the video of the pitch.

Purchased ticket at 6pm having checked Hanwell website.
Just about to leave at 7:15 Checked H&Y website Nothing.
Then luckily checked email and saw match called off.
Saw re-arranged date out of town so contacted Hanwell for refund and they were very efficient in processing authorisation.
I’m fortunate that I live in Ealing but for people travelling further it’s very frustrating.

Unfortunately as I am also matchday secretary these days I have to be at away games somewhat earlier than previously, with such a late postponement I had no way of updating hyufc.com as I was already at Hanwell, for away games I would always look to check the hosts X (Twitter) feed or website for such things, sadly our own X (Twitter) feed is somewhat pathetic and out of my remit hence my advice to check the home side socials. For games that get called off before I leave for the game hyufc.com is always updated within ten minutes of my being informed.

Hope this explains why there was nothing on hyufc.com on the evening.

Thanks Kev, and for all you do to keep things running behind the scenes.

I see Sugandha Kapoor has been appointed as press officer in place of Tim Fuell so hopefully she'll take over his duties.

Does all this mean that Andy C is no longer working for the club? I know he lives a fair way away so the journey must have made things difficult.

Sugandha is the lady who does X (Twitter), FB etc not a chance IMO she can fill Tim's boots I'm afraid as she knows absolutely nothing about football as can be seen from the garbage on said X, FB etc, only my personal opinion but I feel it's making us a laughing stock when she cannot even get the day of the match right, last weeks game at Hanwell said Saturday 11th and then Saturdays game at Kingstonian said Tuesday 15th before she changed it. I have told the Chairman this but she's still here, so c'est la vie.

Andy C is very much still Club Secretary, he does all the important paperwork, signing players, dealing directly with the league etc and I do the matchday secretary job liaising with our managers and providing teamsheets etc to the referees at the matches in accordance with league rules plus for home games I update Football Web Pages in real time (the opposition do it at away games as per league rules), at first I really didn't like it but sort of grew into it and now quite enjoy it, the downside is having to get to games so much earlier than before.

I am hoping the new supporters board will take up some of these issues with the Chairman, but I'm not holding my breath on that one sadly.

Not going to lie a few months back I almost threw it all in, soon after Tim left as the atmosphere behind the scenes appeared somewhat toxic, I have calmed down a bit and at present will carry on, how long for I really don't know, depends what happens up high going forwards I suppose.
