Countdown To The New Season

Post by Mr Heinstein »

It all feels a bit like my exam revision back the day, a frantic last minute rush!

Great to see some news about the ground on the main site. It does feel like the club struggles to cope with the demands of the stadium but appreciation to those working to make it playable. QPR Women are due to play at the SkyEx on August 18 with the QPR Development team playing on August 27th before Badshot Lea visit the following Saturday. Fingers crossed!

On the player front I suppose we'll see a rush off announcements as players need to be registered for Saturday. As things stand I think we have:
  • Will Salmon (Defender): Retained
  • Jude Mason (Defender): From Kingstonian
  • James Richmond (Defender): From Enfield Town
  • Klajdi Sula (Defender): From U18s
  • Cole Brown (Defender / Midfielder): Retained
  • Howard Caluseru (Midfielder): From U18s
  • Perri Iandolov (Midfielder): From AFC Totton
  • Jonathan Hippolyte (Striker): From Enfield Town
Four players from within the club, three from the management team's former clubs and one other.

Here's hoping it will be alright on the night and Andy C's ready for a busy few days!

All feels a bit hectic Mr H. When you get relegated there normally a big turn around of staff and players which I felt needed to happen this year. Discipline /complacency big issue last season.

Can’t be easy putting together a squad from scratch, players holding out for best wages and highest league to compete in. Players heads turned for higher division or more money regardless of verbal agreements.

Good to see the U18s icon development squad being given an opportunity, we never know, good be a few gems. Also gives the rest the mind set there is a path to the first team.

Attended 3/4 friendlies and the squad seemed to be a regular show of same faces in each one, with a few newer faces here and there. From the Q&A last week still seems to be work ongoing in player recruitment which is normal at this level.

As for the season the target was top 5 from the management team, I’m expecting it to be inconsistent first few months until settled squad in place and team given time to gel. I’d take some more attracting and attacking football this year, last season was a real grind, with very little in the way of winning the games always felt we were on the back foot for the majority of the season, even at home.

Good luck to Andy & Simon in this campaign, think patience will be the key in the early part of the season.

Looks like Andy Leese and Simon Lane have been working quite hard in the final week of pre-season. Have to be honest I'm not too familiar with many of the guys brought in, but I'd have thought Adrian Clifton is a good signing. Been around a while and experienced. Him and Hippolyte up top together should bag a few goals between them. Good to see Jack Williams back too.
