Swindon Supermarine (H)

Post by Red army »

Those 4 wins on the spin seem like a distant memory!!

Thought we started well for the first 25 mins, on the front foot, winning second balls. Pace going forward the passing was a lot quicker and sharper. Cole Brown skipping past 2 players on the edge of the box and his low left footed curler tipped round the post by the keeper. Very good goal, ball out of defence into Ronan Silva his flick round the defender to Betts, turn and first time pass through the centre of the Swindon defence, the pace of Ayo gets him clear, and cool finish past the on rushing keeper. Charlie Owens strike high and wide. Then for some reason we got pushed back and didn’t really see any real attacks or they broke down with misplaced pass or crowded out by a nervy Swindon defence. Swindon dominated latter part of the 1st half, poor pass into midfield, cut out and a strike from edge of the box hitting the outside of the right post. Again one v one against the new hayes keeper, he did well to block with his right hand, just before their opening goal, think 3 passes from the away side dissected the whole Hayes midfield, and Paul field sliding block prevented another shot on target. Resulting corner to the near post misses every one, but will salmon could only divert the ball into his own net.

2nd half was so poor, started with a Will Salmon shocking pass which was cut out on the edge of our box. Cut back to ex Hayes player Fernandes who smashes home. Neither side really created anything for the rest of the half. Plenty of possession but no real cutting edge in the final third of the pitch. And dinked cross to the back post but cleared away with Mo Bettamer lurking. Possible penalty shout on Sami nutmeg on his marker but went down a bit softly for the referee. Staring an another defeat in the face up steps Charlie Owens and dispatches a 25yd free kick over the wall into the far corner. Scramble in the Hayes box followed immediately with Jack Williams clearing off the line.

Mom Cole Brown one of our most consistent players this year, defensively always seems to have 2/3 players to mark? Going forward is a threat.

Been our problem all season, the lack of creativity and never really look like scoring goals for long periods of a game. Watching games this season if teams sit deep and leave no space in behind we really struggle to break teams down. I’m still not convinced that we will pick up enough points based on current form over the last 5 games.
Repeat of Boxing Day last year v Chesham would be a good start!!

Excellent report, as always Red army.

Agree on the creativity. From the games I've been over for it was noticeable how few chances we were creating. As you say, that run of 4 wins on the spin seems a long time ago now too.

I do fear for us after Saturday. I felt it was a game we really HAD to win. Two games in hand on Swindon but it's hard to see us picking up enough points at the moment. We have a tough run in too. And you'd expect Plymouth to at least get enough points to overhaul us from their 5 games in hand. Tiverton also winning games now and with a game in hand.

Was over for Chesham away last season for the excellent 3-0 win. What a performance that was, coupled with the top-draw save Byrne (I think he was in goal that day?) made from point-blank range! Another one of those would be magic but I just don't see this team having it in them sadly. I hope I'm wrong of course. The thought of a possible return to Div 1 is not a pleasant one.

Another very disappointing performance.

Hayes started well and i honestly thought with the start Hayes would run out comfortable winners. From the off Hayes pressed hard and shut down Swindon. Hayes scored a great goal then stopped playing for the rest of the game. Apart from Cole Brown having a couple of shots saved in the first half that summed up Hayes contribution to the game. Before the equaliser Swindon should have scored at least three times with our defence a complete shambles, the rest of the team were only marginally better. Their equaliser was an own goal from a mistake a very poor mistake and when you are struggling these mistakes often result in goals. Swindon scored very early in the second half and I am afraid to say there was no response just the usual hoofing the ball to no one, no pressing, the forwards were totally isolated with the rest of the team stuck by their own box. The equaliser was the only shot in the second half from Hayes which summed up the woeful performance. The goal was well worth the wait a cracking free kick. To be fair the goal was totally undeserved and Swindon must be pig sick to draw this game which really didn’t help either side’s relegation fight.

There was nothing from this side apart from the first few minutes. Nothing on the bench just two subs used says it all this squad has hit rock bottom. Morale is rock bottom and the loss of three good players who will be hard to replace now, this is going to be a tough end to season. Chesham next, usually a tough game can Hayes turn it around this would be a great place to start another unbeaten run which will see us to safety.

We've all seen us beaten by better sides. That's going to happen when you're a club the size of Hayes, and you can accept it. But for a number of players to not try, that's quite something and will inevitably lead to the loss of those players who put their heart and soul in (We've all been there at work where you're getting nowhere because of the environment, so you start eyeing a new job ..)

Some of the players visibly put no effort in for long periods on Saturday. The manager was screaming at them to do things they were not doing, time and again, and yet nothing changed. You could see the morale of the 'heart and soul' players slowly drop to something approaching zero through the second half. Some of them had done the running of 2 or 3 players on their own.

Luckily some Swindon players couldn't be bothered either (hence why they're struggling too), so Hayes hung in and the free kick rescued a frankly undeserved point.

If that's what is summoned for a true 6 pointer at home, I dread to think what is on offer most weeks.
