Looking at the new HTFC website just now they don’t have todays friendly as an upcoming fixture, so let’s hope they turn up.

Not only they might not turn up but the H&Y’s Facebook Ad states KO at 2:30pm!!!

I suppose it’s a way of getting the “crowd” in early and drink more beer.

A competitive, on occasion fractious match which HYUFC won with a last gasp free kick from Ben Purcell the only goal, following substitute no.18 (I think) being upended. Struck powerfully and heading for the top corner, the Geordies' keeper seemed to have Purcell's strike in his hands and then the next moment the ball was nestling in the back of the net.

There looked to be some experimentation going on with the personnel, so possibly not our starting XI for the campaign proper and indeed it was the introduction of attacking talent which brought a second half alive for HYUFC after Hanwell had spent much of it up to that point in our half. That said it was a good defensive work-out with the team minimising the chances of the men in black white and Forster in fine form, especially in the air when they did break through.

The match started with a Hanwell chance rolling narrowly past Forster's right-hand post as the HYUFC looked to get settled. Later HYUFC were to hit the post from an angle as neither side could trouble the scoreboard in an even first half despite chances at both ends. The scoreboard was switched off anyway so it wasn't really going to be troubled whatever happened on the pitch.

As far as individuals go, Joe Gater was the defensive lynchpin, Louis Rogers was out wide rather than his more central position in defence last year, Derham and Purcell were the midfield grafters, 18, Matthews and Hay were impact subs, Cumberbatch and Chrichlow looked exciting, great to see James Taylor back, Fashanu was under a tighter watch than against Watford but is also exciting and to those I've missed, that's down to my poor reporting, not your contribution, the manager really has a great depth of talent to work with.
