Thoughts on Fareham (H) - 10 Jan

Well, what to make of that?
After what I thought was a great performance against Met Police we seemed to be back to the old ways of "getting stuck" playing the ball about, not enough options for those on the ball and generally not offering much of a threat going forward. Meanwhile Fareham offered a threat on the break, and even not on the break sometimes, and really could have been further ahead at half time. One offside which saw the ball in the back of the net looked marginal and one goalpost knew who the home team was and gave the ball straight back to Watkins when required. Must admit, I was heartily disappointed at how 2026 had started at the SkyEx.
Half time. Off go the wide attackers, Ewhare and Kaunda and target man Stuart. On comes Hayles and Hay out wide with Nasha on to add some bite to the midfield. And it worked. Just. Hayles destroyed the two men they put on him and Hay was effective down the right. I think the rest of the team did a better job at getting the ball to them early too which helped.
A goal for Matthew on debut, he looks promising, and he was a micron away from connecting with a cross before he got he scored. Looks like he's a "right place at the right time" in the box kind of player which is what we need to capitalise on the number of crosses we get in to the danger area.
So, it feels great to have won 4-3 but let's hope we don't see too many first halves like that one.
