Whitehawk (A)

A night of frustration on the south coast for United.
Another performance where we’ve lost a game in a few key moments, conceding the 3rd goal in the manner we did is suicide, but one we’ve come to expect sadly.
Bright start to the game, some nice interplay in midfield on couple of occasions gave us 2 chances, Hinds shot blazed over from the edge of the box. Sami good work on the left skips a challenge, his pass into Tyler Hayles, but no composure left footed over the bar.
Long diagonal ball from the Whitehawk left, Roger’s countered on the edge of the box but ball drops down to opposition player who takes a touch round the advancing Watkins in the United goal, penalty kick. Scores to Watkins left again. United hit back instantly, another low cross from Olorunfemi on the right, Sani in front of his man shirt pulled ref awards a penalty. Jack McKnight converts unconvincingly to the keepers left. Whitehawk on top for next 15/20 minutes multiple crosses scrambled away.
8 minutes left in the half, a long pass into the left back area of United, Watkins comes comes flying out from goal clears the opposition player out free kick and a booking for his rush of blood. Resulting corner whipped into causes confusion in the away defence, scramble ensues eventually poked home from 6 yds. HT 2-1
2nd half kicking up the severe slope slightly with the wind, United have a half chance a long free kick headed down by the diminutive Sani, Josh Odell pokes out a right foot but over the bar. 53minutws on the clock United work a good move resulting in Hinds running across the width of their 18yd box, holds onto possession for to long, dispossessed 1or 2 passes later Whitehawk played bearing down on goal with no u tied player in sight, he rounds the keeper, captain Duffy from no where sliding tackle thwarts the danger it seemed, only for Whitehawk forward to tap home (think I’ve described this goal several times already this season).
United battled away, and looked the better team when the ball was on the floor.
Tyler Hayles set up on the left hand side just inside the box, a swift passing move across the opposition area, once again his effort turned away at a comfortable height for the keeper. What looks our only route to goal at present deep corner from Jack McKnight left by the the Whitehawk defence, allows Captain Duffy to tap home inside the 6yd box.
The introduction of Ewhare and Ndombe combined, the latter slipped a pass inside the area, Hinds with the keeper to beat under pressure from defenders, weak effort turned away by the Whitehawk No1. FT 3-2
Mom Amos Nasha, never stopped running and closing down. Hayles, Sani and Hinds all lively on the night but lacking that real strikers instinct in front of goal.
Over the 2 games, I feel like we had enough to progress into the next round. Defensively we look shaky at times but better than the South Park & Moneyfields fixtures.
Slow progress finding a back 5 that works, the left side of the pitch seems to be the main concern. We have creative players but no real focal point in the 9 position. Can’t see a natural finisher in the side this season. Some may argue that man would be Sam Ashton but my original fear, he would miss more games than he played seems to be accurate so far!!!
