7 minutes of highlights here.

Just from watching the highlights it looks like both sides had a hatful of chances they didn't quite manage to take until George Sippetts had the magic touch to get us the three points after good work from Jonathan Hippolyte. Some important saves from Pazio and the woodwork too.

Slim margins but great to take all three points at the home of the team who finished third in the league last season.

Another 3 points away from home. Little fortunate second half, backs to the wall for large parts but we never passed well second half, overrun and never gained a foothold in the middle of the park.

Fairly even first half both sides having opportunities to open the scoring, Kaylen Hinds inside the box but unable to keep his left footed effort down. Alves free kick from outside the box, keeper finger tip save onto the post. In swinging corner fell to the feet of Richmond missing every one but cleared after heavy touch. Alves on the left cross finds Adrian Clifton cushioned header to Kaylen Hinds, half volley brings out a smart stop from the home keeper, diving to his right strong hand at the base of the near post.
Leatherhead had few chances of their own, few times in down the Hayes right cutting inside but shooting wide of the far post. Best chance by far, long ball had Salmon back peddling, Juliusz Pazio makes the decision to rush out, beaten to the ball by the striker who fakes to cross and lays the keeper on his backside, goal gaping but for 2 defenders on the line goes high and crashes against the bar. Ht 0-0

Second half was completely different, Leatherhead on the front foot from the off. Plenty of possession in wide areas and all but one cross late on which was headed against the bar. Scramble from a corner eventually cleared by the Hayes defence. The golden chance for Leatherhead, found the Hayes defence appealing for offside which never came, sub skips through with only the keeper to beat but drags his right foot shot 3/4 yards wide. Created a very good chance of our own ball down the line slightly misjudged by the left full back, George Sippetts races clear, side footed cross into the area to Adrian Clifton, touch with his left foot then outside of the right foot shot smothered by the onrushing keeper.
The game edging towards a draw, another Leatherhead move breaks down in the middle of the park, Adam Martin first time pass into Hinds, moved onto Hippolyte on the left wing, driving towards the box cuts inside level with the area, low cross finds Sippetts with his back to goal, left footed control turn and swivel left foot strike past the keeper. Smash and grab complete. Late chance for home team but another poor attempt.

Mom Gaby Piorkowski. Done the work of two men in midfield, never stopped running and was decent going forward first half.

Take another away win but there is definitely an issue for me in the middle of the park. Perrie and Berchiche both missing today so didn’t help. Second half we never competed for the second ball Gaby was overrun, Martin looked like he struggled with fitness or mobility centrally. We were poor in terms of passing but limited options for the player on the ball most of the time, forced us to give the ball straight back while going more direct. Wing backs pushed back and rarely got forward. Positives seem to look more threatening in recent weeks if only it was sparingly on the counter attack yesterday. 3 centre halves( Salmon, Keano and Richmond) put in a shift under constant assault from crosses and deep running midfielder players. Best half I’ve seen James Richmond play for us dominant and vocal throughout the second half. Still plenty to work on but take where we are at present with new squad.

Thanks for the highlights and report guys. Much appreciated.

I saw the game was being broadcast by Leatherhead on Twitter so listened in. They seemed to think Piorkowski played really well too and worked hard in the middle.

Does sound like our goal lead a charmed life at times and the commentator said Leatherhead hit the bar and upright, but that he reckoned we had the better chances? I do like the fact we're playing three at the back now too. We stormed this division playing that way last time and we have the players to cause a threat with wing backs.

Either way, a good win away from home against a difficult side and keeps us nicely in touch. Farnham already starting to run away with it a little so, if we can win on Tuesday, it puts us on the right path to chase them down.
